From May 6 to 12, 2024, Canadians nationwide will unite for Mental Health Week, a vital initiative organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). This week serves as a beacon of hope, emphasizing the urgent need to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and cultivate a culture of inclusivity and understanding.
Mental health encompasses our emotional well-being, our connections with others, our thoughts, and our ability to navigate life’s challenges. Despite its fundamental role in our overall wellness, it often remains veiled in silence and stigma. Statistics paint a stark picture: in any given year, 1 in 5 individuals in Canada will personally confront a mental health issue or illness. Despite its prevalence, stigma persists, preventing many from accessing the help and support they deserve.
The fear of ridicule, discrimination, and misunderstanding frequently silences those grappling with mental health challenges. This silence is unacceptable, depriving individuals of the compassion, understanding, and support they rightfully deserve. At Iridia, we are committed to breaking this silence and standing in solidarity with those facing mental health challenges.
This Year’s Theme: A Call To Be Kind
This year’s Mental Health Week carries a poignant theme: “A Call to be Kind.” We all possess the capacity for compassion, knowing its transformative impact. In a world marred by suffering, we emphasize that kindness is inherently linked to our humanity.
The green ribbon symbolizes our collective dedication to Mental Health Week, chosen by the Differently-Abled Working Group of the National Human Rights Committee to raise awareness of the disparities faced by individuals with mental health issues across the nation.
As part of our advocacy for mental health, we promote education and awareness in workplaces and communities. Compassion and understanding are foundational in creating supportive environments where individuals feel valued and empowered to seek help without fear of judgment.
Mental Fitness
At Iridia, we understand the challenges of workplace mental health issues and the limitations of current proactive measures. We believe in preventative measures through Mental Fitness, a program designed for repeated efforts over time, like physical fitness. Our program, delivered via 15-minute weekly sessions, fosters team connection, and delivers engaging content led by passionate experts. Through this program, individuals can navigate the six pillars of holistic well-being: Sleep, Community, Prosocial Behavior, Nutrition, Exercise, and The Mind. Learn more
